Wood veneer is thin, pieces of wood typically from .005″ to .187″ thick. Wood veneer is cut from a log, stump or branch. One of three different methods are used: peeled, sliced and 1/2 round. For more detailed information on the cutting processes, view our Veneer Cuts page.
Thinner wood veneer is typically used as a decorative face overly. Thicker is plied or laminated together with Dry Film Adhesives or liquid to make strong, stable plywood. When cut, dried to approximately 8% moisture and then graded. Each specie of wood has numerous different properties of strength, quality and looks. There is a significant selection and grading process required before the finished product is made. Rotary Cut veneer yields 75-100% wood. Sliced veneer yield approximately 30% less from a log. There are however many variables. Wood veneers are often die cut, laser cut, inlaid which is also called Marquetry. Wood veneers can be treated with Lenderink Fire Preventer to give Class A Fire Rating Micro Wood® Veneer.
